Voluntary Protection Products – VPP

This Course was developed to provide Dealership Employees a basic working knowledge of Voluntary Protection Products (VPP) that are available, and generally sold, to Dealership Consumers. This Course material is an excellent overview for the entire Dealership Staff. This includes Office, Finance or Business, Sales, Service, Parts and Detail Departments Employees.

A “Voluntary Protection Product,” also referred to as a “VPP,” is an EXTRA “Protection Product” that a Consumer would purchase VOLUNTARILY with an RV, Auto, Marine or Power Sports Unit that provides additional protections.

To comply with recent & ongoing FTC and other Regulatory Agencies mandates, it’s highly important to properly address & present all Protection Products the Dealership offers & provides to Consumers.

The verbiage or definition Dealerships utilize to present & describe Protection Products have a great impact on how these Voluntary Protection Products are perceived by Consumers, Civil Litigators and Regulatory Agencies.

If the verbiage or definition sounds like it makes any Protection Product “Compulsory” to purchase for any reason whatsoever, this can certainly create a path for Regulatory and/or Civil Litigation action.

Therefore, it is extremely important to properly identify the term or label used to describe or characterize these Protection Products, this includes terms or words such as “Ancillary” or “Add-on” Protection Products, which have recently provided cause for intensified scrutiny.

The ONLY TERM or LABEL that should be utilized to describe these Protection Products should be “Voluntary Protection Products.”

There can now be NO CONFUSION that these Protection Products are in fact “Voluntary” and NOT “Compulsory.”

Please keep in mind that not every Dealership offers all of these Voluntary Protection Products, and other Dealerships have decided to offer additional Voluntary Protection Products not discussed herein.

We have selected the top selling Voluntary Protection Products, according to our research, to include within the scope of our Courses. The same compliance concerns should be provided when dealing with all Voluntary Protection Products that are offered to the Dealership’s Consumers.

Regardless of whether an Employee is just starting their career in the Retail Dealership Industry, or are an experienced Professional, a visit to the basic working knowledge of Voluntary Products offered by the Dealership is advised at least on an annual basis.

This “Voluntary Protection Products” Course is designed to accomplish this task.
